Who is J. Pritchard?
We dedicate our namesake to Joel and Joan Pritchard. Joel invented the game by cobbling together various aspects of court sports. Joan suggested the name pickleball, inspired by “pickle boats,” the hodge-podge boats for oarsmen that didn’t rank but still wanted to row.
While Joel is often mentioned as the father of pickleball, his wife’s naming of the sport is an important aspect that deserves a spotlight in history. The “J” in our name is dedicated to both these two incredible people that started a game that continues to inspire millions.
